Spring 2008 we
completed Yanmar installs on two Carolina
Classics. The owner of Flukester, a
28' Carolina Classic, wanted his twin
Volvo diesels replaced with new Yanmar 6LP
engines. The 6LPs will give him 315 hp each, with
a 2:1 reduction gear transmission. Her engine
beds, exhaust system, remote controls, gauges,
propulsion gear are all being upgraded in this
twin repower.

Too Much Fun
is a 25' Carolina Classic.
Ventosa, a 45' custom designed steel sloop is
being repowered with a
Yanmar 4JH. Her owners have made two Atlantic
crossings and have extensively cruised the
Chesapeake Bay and Caribbean. Ventosa is
receiving newly welded engine mounts, a custom
exhaust system and new engine room wiring as
part of the re-power. Welding was performed by
hoisting our TIG welder over the cockpit with
our Pettibone crane. Our metal fabricators
worked in extremely tight spaces to create new
mounts at just the right angle for the new
engine.
Africa is a 42 foot Hans
Christian sailboat whose owner wanted the old BMW diesel
replaced with a Yanmar 4JH turbo driven
diesel engine. We calculated and installed a
prop with a new pitch and diameter to maximize
speed and rpm specifications. After upgrading
her prop shaft and installing a PYI dripless
stuffing box to facilitate ease of maintenance,
we installed remote oil and fuel filters to make
engine maintenance less tedious. A great deal
of custom carpentry, especially around the
companionway steps, was required to complete
this engine installation.
We also installed a DC powered fuel polishing
system to improve fuel cleanliness. Designed to
bypass the engine while in port, fuel can be
polished easily at the dock by a simple turn of
a valve and flip of a switch.
